Providing Food Support to Needy Families of Persons with Disabilities During Covid-19

About the Fundraiser

During the Covid-19 lockdown, thousands of persons with disabilities faced severe hardships due to loss of employment, lack of communication access, and shortage of essential resources. Among them, members of the marginalized deaf community were affected the most.

Pahal Foundation launched a special fundraising initiative to provide food support, emergency assistance, and essential help to poor families of persons with disabilities across Maharashtra.

Supporting the Deaf Community During Crisis

Many deaf individuals depend on daily wage work for survival. With the sudden lockdown, countless families lost their only source of income. Due to communication barriers and limited access to information, many struggled to connect with government services, healthcare providers, and emergency support systems.

The founders of Pahal Foundation, being members of the deaf community themselves, deeply understood these challenges and immediately stepped forward to help those in need.

Communication Support and Emergency Assistance

Through strong community networks across Maharashtra, Pahal Foundation continuously communicated with deaf individuals and their families using sign language. The organization coordinated with government agencies, police departments, healthcare workers, and local volunteers to ensure that emergency support reached vulnerable families.

The foundation also received several SOS video messages and emergency video calls from deaf individuals facing crises such as:

  • Shortage of food and groceries
  • Lack of money for medicines and essential items
  • Medical emergencies
  • Communication difficulties during lockdown
  • Lack of support in remote areas

Helping Beyond Food Distribution

While government agencies helped provide ration and groceries in some locations, many families still needed financial support to purchase personal necessities and medicines from local stores. Pahal Foundation extended its efforts not only for the deaf community but also for other persons with disabilities, poor families, and homeless individuals affected during the pandemic.

A Mission Built on Humanity and Inclusion

One of the strongest aspects of Pahal Foundation is its dedicated network of sign language users and professional sign language interpreters. This combination allowed the organization to effectively communicate with both deaf and non-deaf communities and ensure smooth coordination of relief efforts.

The organization remained committed to ensuring that every donation and every contribution reached deserving and underprivileged individuals directly.

Gratitude for Public Support

Pahal Foundation appealed to generous individuals and supporters through online fundraising platforms to help continue this mission of compassion and emergency relief.

The overwhelming support and kindness received from donors, volunteers, and well-wishers became a source of hope for many struggling families during one of the most difficult times in recent history.

We sincerely thank everyone who supported this initiative and stood together with us to bring relief, dignity, and hope to people in need.

Together, compassion and collective support can help rebuild lives and restore hope during difficult times.
