The city of Indore came alive on 5th October 2025, as the National Consultation on Protecting Deaf Culture, History, ISL Rights & Promoting Deaf-hood brought together passionate voices from across India. The grand event, hosted at Ravindra Natya Grah, was filled with energy, inspiration, and the vibrant spirit of the Deaf community.
Organised by Pahal Foundation in collaboration with Malwa Nimad Badhir Sangh, this landmark consultation became a powerful platform to discuss the importance of preserving Deaf culture, recognizing Indian Sign Language (ISL) as a national language, and promoting Deaf-hood — the pride of Deaf identity and community.
Throughout the day, participants shared their experiences, ideas, and dreams for a more inclusive future. Experts, activists, educators, and young Deaf leaders engaged in thought-provoking discussions about Deaf education, policy advocacy, accessibility, and representation. Cultural performances in ISL celebrated the beauty and richness of Deaf expression, leaving the audience deeply moved.
The event also highlighted how Deaf culture is not just about communication — it’s about connection, history, and empowerment. By recognizing the unique linguistic identity of the Deaf community, the consultation called for stronger policies to ensure equality, respect, and visibility.
The day ended with renewed hope and unity — a reminder that the journey toward full recognition of ISL and Deaf rights is a shared mission. Together, the Deaf community and its allies reaffirmed their commitment to building a future where every Deaf person can thrive, express, and be heard — in their own language.
